Black And White Portrait Photography For Elegance Images

Black and white portrait photography is very popular because it adds an air of elegance and drama to the images. Black and white portraits impart rich and timeless appearance. Without the hindrance of colors, the viewer focuses on other elements of the photograph. The lack of color allows texture and form to become more significant features of the portrait.

An uncluttered look and simplicity adds a polished look to the portrait. Black and white portrait photography is an excellent way to add a classic and romantic feel to your photographs. It adds an air of nostalgia to portraits and evokes reminiscence of a time prior to color photographs, when all portraits were black and white.

There are a lot of people who consider black and white portrait photography to be an artistic form of expression. They believe that black and white portraits are more of a fine art than color portraits. Black and white photographs contain a distinct sophistication, summoning memories of a bygone era.

They soften facial features and capture the delicacy of shape and contour. It is often suggested that black and white portraits look best displayed in silver, anything antique is especially effective. Displaying new modern black and white portraits with heirloom family portraits is an excellent way to incorporate the past with the present for the preservation of the family’s heritage.

Black and White Portrait Photography is the Preference of Some Photographers

Some photographers are so impressed by the beauty of black and white photography that they specialize only in the photographing of black and white photographs. Many of them believe that the elegance and emotion of occasions like weddings are best captured by the art of black and white portrait photography.

Newborn baby/family portraits done in black and white can have an exceptionally dramatic effect. A uniform background and clothing color can focus attention on the baby and the family’s loving gaze and embrace become a more impressive and inspiring image, symbolic of their family’s love and devotion.

Though some photographers still prefer traditional film processing, most of them utilize modern digital cameras. Digital portrait photography allows for greater versatility. The majority of black and white portraits are originally shot in color.

State of the art technology can then be used to manipulate the photographs to convert them to gray scale. Specialized software is used to erase imperfections, lighten tones, and deepen shadows allowing for flawless, exquisite black and white portraits.

How to correctly use the digital camera battery

How to correctly use the digital camera battery

When we bought a new digital camera, the first thing to do is to give lithium rechargeable batteries, battery charge management circuit in the internal lithium battery charging is a complex process, it is necessary to ensure that lithium batteries can be filled in order to ensure that the performance of lithium batteries, but also ensure that lithium batteries can not overcharge, because if the process of charging the lithium battery charge current is too large, or the charging time is too long, too late to produce the oxygen is consumed, it may cause within the pressure is increased, the battery deformation, leakage and other undesirable phenomena, in serious cases can cause an explosion or fire, they must be charged in accordance with specified methods.

Many friends believe that the use of the previous three lithium batteries should be charging more than 16 hours, so as to fully activate the battery, in fact, doing so is no basis for this is the year the popular Ni-MH or Ni-Cd battery charging method for lithium-ion batteries to that does not apply.

Because the core of the lithium polymer Acer as07b42 battery and no memory effect, so only 3 hours or so the hub is entirely possible, and most chargers have a random display, if the display charging has been completed, then you can unplug power, no longer have to wait so long time!

In general, lithium batteries can usually be charged 300-500 times, according to the use of different methods and frequency of your digital camera batteries may be used for several years, it may only be for one year, so maintenance is very important in peacetime. According to IEC standard requirements, the battery should be at a temperature of 20 + -5 ?, humidity (65 – +20)% under the conditions of storage, to avoid placing very hot space.

In general, the higher the temperature the battery storage capacity of the remaining rate is lower, and vice versa. So we had better battery stored in cool, dry place, especially in the travel time even more care should pay attention to a good camera battery, and try to avoid the battery with a general store with metal objects to prevent the occurrence of short-circuit the battery; easy to travel when the battery become dirty, so may result in battery life, “loss”, in order to avoid the loss of power problems, we must pay attention to maintaining the battery and battery contact points at both ends of the inside of the lid clean. If the battery is surface dirty, then we will have timely use of a soft, clean dry cloth and gently wipe the surface of the battery to keep the battery clean.

When a long time do not use batteries, we have the battery from the digital camera is best taken down, because at this time even if the digital video camera was turned off, the system they will still have a low battery current output, which will shorten the battery life. Stored for a long time suggested that the battery part of the discharge, in order to restore the battery’s initial capacity and discharge performance. Should be taken to avoid a complete discharge, because the lithium batteries is a low-maintenance batteries, this part of the discharge the battery completely discharge more durable than that, if possible, should avoid frequent full discharges, that is not to use camcorder battery automatic shutdown date, as long as the power shortage prompted a long time to recharge should be timely.

If your regular over-discharge lithium battery cells could have disastrous consequences, especially in high-current over- discharge or repeated over-discharge, but not short-circuit discharge, because the destruction of a greater impact on the battery. Because it had the battery will discharge within the pressure is increased, the reversibility of positive and negative active material damage, even if the charge can only be partial recovery, capacity, there will be obvious decay, over time, your lithium battery that can power the time will be Yuelai shorter!

Also need to remind everyone that the current digital camera batteries accessories in all, the lithium battery counterfeiting and selling bad the situation is especially serious, because it obtained illegal profits is the highest. Counterfeit unstable performance of lithium batteries, coupled with the work of current digital cameras large, the actual use of fake batteries working hours shorter than the real thing in many, and some fake batteries used for the first good results, but the charge would be found after a few power performance dramatically.

Although the purchase of the fake batteries may get a moment map cheap, but its consequences are incalculable, the major companies have also issued a statement, the use of counterfeit all the consequences of lithium batteries, the company is not up to any responsibility, it is proposed that we still want to buy original lithium battery is good, must be cautious before buying, otherwise it might bring the camera can not give you repair the damage!

What You Need to Take the Best Pictures

Digital cameras have opened up so much for photographers, both amateur and professional.  With digital there is no guessing whether or not you got the shot. It is almost fool proof. However, if you don’t have the right equipment you might miss the perfect shot. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on expensive equipment, in fact almost everything on this list is easy to find and relatively inexpensive. But you will be glad you have it!

A Quality Bag
Many cameras today are so small you can tuck them in your pocket or through them in your purse. While it is possible to do that, it is not recommended. Cameras are precision instruments that need to be treated with care. You should take precautions to protect your camera at all times. But never fear, even in a case that small camera will still fit in your pocket. There are some great small camera cases available that will fit snug around your camera and keep it protected.

In addition to a small case, it is a good idea to have a standard camera bag as well. Camera bags have multiple compartments and are padded for protection. You will be able to store extra batteries, accessories, and even your camera manual – which you should refer to often for tips.

Take A Spare!
When you used a film camera you would throw an extra roll of film into your bag. Today, we have digital memory cards that can hold hundreds of photos. You would think that is all you need right? Well, not always. It never hurts to have a spare memory card with you.

There are a few reasons why you should carry an extra card. First of all, you should take all your photos at the highest resolution possible. Higher resolution pictures take up more space on your card, so you may run out of room earlier than you anticipate. Another good reason to take an extra card is cost efficiency. Memory cards have dropped enormously in price, so it is very inexpensive to pick up an extra to have on hand just in case. If you are on vacation you will want to have adequate space for all those great vacation photos, so why not bring an extra card with you to begin with?

In addition to a spare memory card, you should always have spare batteries. If your cameral takes conventional batteries, invest in a battery charger and two sets of rechargeable batteries. That way you will always have a charged set and you won’t spend a fortune on disposable batteries! If your camera uses a special camera battery, seriously consider picking up an extra. You would be surprised how many times you will rely on that back up battery when the first one dies!

Tripod – Small or Large
The first thing that most people think of when they hear the word tripod is a large, clumsy contraption that professionals use. Well that isn’t the case. Tripods come in a wide variety of sizes and most fold up into a compact size.  You can also find small table top tripods as well.  The advantage of having a tripod is so you can get good shots in low light, night shots, and fabulous firework photos.  In order for a camera to capture great pictures in low light it needs to be held perfectly still. A tripod allows you to accomplish this.  With a tripod you will get stunning shots of the stars at night!

These are just a few simple items that will help you make the most of your photography. The right equipment, no matter how small and every day can make the difference between a wonderful photo shoot and frustration!

Green Screen Chromakey Tutorial and Tips: How to the best from your Green Screen Shoot – PART 1

I have put together a basic list of the key points to work through when organising a Green Screen Chroma Key shoot. These are the most common questions and possible pit-falls that seem to occur.  If in doubt it’s always best to ask your Green Screen studio for advice on any of these points as they are involved in film shoots everyday, all year round.

Booking the Green Screen Studio – The right time and place

The Green Screen location is such an important factor as clients, talent and crew all need to be able to get the studio easily and on time. A centrally located Green Screen Studio with a good sized holding area, some sofas, TV etc. with excellent catering available should always be a preferred choice. You need somewhere with excellent transport links and also close to key suppliers. You may save money heading to out of town studios but if you run out of tape stock how much would it cost to bike some down? If your camera goes down…. again can a hire company reach you within minutes with a replacement?

Estimating how much time you will need for the shoot is not an impossible task as long as you take into account all the factors that make up a shoot:-

Time required to set up the camera and any additional lights?
Have you allowed time for your subject to rehearse?
Do you have sufficient time for make-up and hair?

Build into your schedule some overrun time especially if you are shooting multiple interviews as some people will be late and some will be early! You can end up with 3 people all turning up at 2pm and having to wait to be interviewed.

Preparation

It’s always best to visit the Green Screen studio to meet the staff and get a feel of how your clients will be looked after. This is very important as for many clients and talent a visit to the Green Screen studio is exciting, interesting and a break from their normal working day. They need to feel relaxed, and be confident that the production being shot will show them in their best light.

There are a few obvious things to remember such as asking your subjects not to wear anything green, heavily patterned, fine striped and shiny /reflective. For corporate shoots think about your colour choices as you do not want anything to clash with your clients brand’s colour or even be seen to represent a rival brands colour!

If possible you should always ask for subjects to bring a choice of shirts (one light, one dark ) and different ties/ accessories. Within reason, you can ask subjects to tie their hair up as fine hair is always harder to key out. Glasses should be swapped for contact lens again if possible but remember that your subject may need to read off cue cards or autocue so they do need to be able to see!

STUDIO TIP – Backgrounds

If you’re shooting some scenes against chroma green, and you need a few shots against a coloured background (white or black for example ), it’s better to pull down the white background and not just shoot green and ‘fix it in post’! A studio with white and black backgrounds is therefore very useful if not essential.

STUDIO TIP  – Perspective and camera movements

Think about how any camera moves (especially zooms / tracking in) will change the perspective and size of your background that you will be adding later.

A slow track into your subject will mean that in the editing stage you will have to accurately recreate the shift in perspective and rescale/size your background to match. Not impossible but keyframing can be time consuming.  For best results your camera should be locked off on a tripod.

STUDIO TIP – Shooting blurred shots

If you’re filming in the Green Screen Studio a shot that will end up being out of focus in the final edit, do not shoot it out of focus. Shoot in focus and then blur it later in the edit suite. Attempting to ‘key out’ a pull focus shot will give you no end of headaches!

In the next article we will look into ‘What video formats are the best for Green Screen Studio Shoots’ plus ‘What is the best way to light a Green Screen studio’.

Canon SLR With Sigma Macro Lens

The world changes when you put that macro lens on your digital SLR camera. All of a sudden, things appear that you never knew were there before.

This is very cool when it happens.

If you are a major camera brand user, such as Nikon or Pentax, you can use a Sigma Macro lens, however, this article is based on using a Canon EOS digital camera system.

Why? Why not just get the Canon macro lens? Another question, can’t you just use any lens for macro photography?

Excellent questions, and they have some compelling answers.

First, about macro lenses. A specially designed lens is used for getting really close to your subject. It is a macro lens. They are created carefully for this intent. Nevertheless the pieces of glass are placed inside the lens barrel is just right for getting that macro photo.

This allows the macro lens to take much sharper and clearer photos when placed close to a subject. Dedicated macro lenses have only one focal length, such as 105mm. Those lenses that actually include the word “macro” in their title, but they are zoom lenses, are not going to give you the high quality image you desire in your macro photography.

Next, consider using a Sigma macro lens versus a Canon macro lens. Some photo enthusiasts won’t even consider it. If you are one of these, you may as well move on. However, there may be a valid reason to think about it… price.

Usually Sigma Macro lenses for Canon digital SLRs are less money than Canon macro lenses. The good news is that no matter which one you use, Sigma or Canon, you will still get excellent photo quality. Most likely, you can’t tell the difference in image quality between the two. You would have to call in the investigation team from NCIS to figure out which is which.

Third party manufacturers like Sigma have made a commitment. They realize that if they don’t get the quality right in their macro lenses, they will not get any of the market share. They put lots of time and research into getting it right. What they ended up with are great engineering and great lenses.

There are four dedicated macro lenses if you decide on Sigma. The focal lengths are 50mm, 70mm, 105mm, and 150mm. The 105mm macro lens is the lens of choice to start with.

There are two great reasons for this, and it is not because the others are not good. First, you get a true macro image at 1:1 (life size). This is why you buy macro. And the second reason is not one you might think of. The 105mm lens is an excellent portrait lens. Yes, facial portraits. Many portrait shooters use a 100mm lens for the lion’s share of their work, and this one will fill the bill.

Sigma macro ratings are very high. You actually should check ratings before buying any piece of camera equipment. In this case, you will discover that many consider Sigma an equal to Canon in the macro category.

Discovering macro photography may be the defining moment in your photographic hobby or career. The beauty and intricacies of nature make you realize that there is a Creator, and He did not hold back, even in the most minute details.

Digital Camera Life

Digital Camera Life – How to get the most years from your camera

by Betty Varland

Digital camera life is a subject of interest out there for many digital camera users. There are some different schools of thought regarding longevity and we’ll examine these areas.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life of the camera. Some things to employ as habits would be to always have the camera in it’s bag when it is not in use. Pull the batteries when not in use to avoid the drain on batteries even when it’s idle. Protect the camera from extremes of temperatures and moisture.

Lenses are a critical component of the digital camera. Make sure to clean the lenses regularly however, avoid “over cleaning” because some scratches could form on the lens or it may actually start to remove some of the coating that is on the lens.

Digital Camera Technology

Just like the home computer, the digital camera keeps evolving. They are just creatures of the digital age and because of this digital cameras will be tossed by the wayside long before they have expired their longevity. There will be something newer, better and more useful.

Mechanical and Optical Parts

The mechanical and optical parts of a camera should last a decent amount of time. There should be no reason that, with proper care, that these should not last before they actually wear out.

Memory Cards

Memory cards, which carry the life blood of what you have been using the camera for, needs special consideration as well. Magnets are not memory cards friends. These can erase the memory card. Ensure you handle the camera carefully near magnets. The magnets won’t affect the components of your camera it will drain the life blood from the memory card that you had worked so hard to achieve.

In summary, take good care of your camera and your digital camera life will be extended.

How to Take Great Photos Every Time!

Many people get flustered when they pick up a camera. What if the shot doesn’t turn out right? What if the lighting is wrong? The what if’s can go on and on. There is an underlying fear of taking photos that goes way back to when film and developing was expensive. But with the digital cameras we have today, there is no reason to fear photography!

The modern camera is so advanced that getting a good picture is very easy. Most cameras have automatic setting that figure lighting, focus, etc. All you have to do is point and shoot. But, to get great pictures you do need to put some thought into the shot.  Here are a few simple tips to help you get great pictures out of almost any camera.

Read Your Manual! This cannot be stressed enough. Yes, you can take the camera out of the box and snap a good picture. But your camera manual will give you tips and tricks to using the special features of your camera. Most cameras have so many more options than just automatic and it is fun to explore them and see what you can do. You will never know your camera’s capabilities unless you read the manual and use what you learn!
Pay Attention to the Background! How many times have you seen a photo that has a distracting background? Or maybe an object seems to be protruding from the subject’s head. The photo is about more than the subject. Check your surroundings and move your subject away from anything that may detract from the photo.
Use Your Flash – Carefully! The automatic flash is a great invention – if you know how to use it correctly.  For instance, would you use your flash outdoors on a sunny day? You would if you want a great outdoor shot! Many times bright sun will cause your subjects to squint. But if you position them in a shady area – maybe under a tree, then use your flash you will have a great shot. The flash fills in the shade so you have a bright outdoor shot that isn’t too bright and the subjects look natural.  On the flip side, too many people rely on the flash indoors when it isn’t needed. Not all indoor shots will require a flash. Many times flash photography gives you harsh lighting, red eyes, and sharp shadows. If your camera has a ‘fill flash’ option, use that indoors. The fill flash will fire a split second after the shutter giving you a more natural light. For most modern cameras, you may have an indoor setting that will keep the shutter open longer to absorb as much light as possible from the shot. Again, refer to your camera manual for your camera’s options.
Steady Does It – Use a Tripod. This tip goes along with the one above. If you want natural lighting indoors, use a tripod. This will allow the camera to remain perfectly still when the shutter speed is slow. Your photos will have adequate light because of the slow shutter speed, and they will be clear! Many indoor shots are blurry because people just cannot hold the camera still while shooting in limited light. The shutter needs to remain open longer to collect as much light as possible, and the human hand cannot keep the camera perfectly still during that fragment of time. A tripod is also great for wonderful night shots, lighting pictures, and capturing fireworks.
Practice Makes Perfect! One of the best things about digital cameras is you can take thousands of pictures without spending a ton of money. In the old days you had to buy film and pay to develop it. This made it hard for the amateur photographer to perfect their skills. Today, you can play with your cameras settings, lighting, etc., without worry. Explore the world around you and take photos of landscapes, people, anything you wish all the while improving your photography skills and learning your camera.

Anyone can take stunning photos. It just takes practice and a little preparation. As you become familiar with your camera and what it can do, taking great photos will become natural. Who knows, you may find a love for photography you never knew you had.
