Going shopping at certain times is also important. Watch for discounts and blowout sales. Especially during the summer and on Boxing Day you can find amazing deals on cameras and accessories.
Another tip is to do your shopping online. Stores online do not have to pay rent and the same overhead costs in most cases as regular retail stores so you can usually save big. All you have to do is enter in the type of accessories you want and some basic information on it and you will be presented with your best options.
You also have the option of buying your accessories used. This is not always the best idea for something as delicate as camera accessories but it can work. Look on Craigslist, Kijiji and other reputable sites for the largest selection. Go and view the items in person first before agreeing whether or not to buy, as pictures can be deceiving. If you are not able to, at least get them to show you detailed pictures before paying for anything.
